Slate Summit Video 2022
The goal of this project was to create a 1-2 minute animated video for the main stage presentation at the 2022 Slate Summit.
Time Frame
This project was extremely last minute but when brought to our team, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity for brand exposure. We were given 10 days to come up with a concept, illustrate storyboards, write a script, and animate the video. Our team was given full creative freedom.
Brainstorm
The brainstorm session was all hands on deck. After workshopping the basic storyline and the key messages to be conveyed in the video, we proceeded to develop profiles for the main characters. The video focused on the story of 3 students who come from different backgrounds and have different ambitions. They are shown as an example of why Scoir, Slate, and the Coalition have partnered to work towards making a change that students need in college admissions.
Storyboards
After mapping out the video outline in Figma, I started working on the illustrations. Meanwhile, our design co-op worked on the background illustration and my manager, along with some of the product marketers, collaborated on the script and voice over. We reused a couple of the illustrations and animations from previous projects, which helped save time.
Animation/Final Product
Once the storyboards and script were finalized, I organized all of the Illustrator files and began animating in After Effects. After a few rounds of internal feedback on the video, we sent it to Slate for review.
The video was approved and was shown a few days later on the main stage at the Slate Summit where it played for 3,400+ people. This was such an incredible accomplishment for not only our team, but for the company as a whole.
